Collectors of underwater housings will know just how rare this unmarked housing is. It is professionally made in cast aluminum and the research into its origins was written by underwater photography historian Sid Macken of HDS USA, and published in issue 58 of The Journal of Diving History. A copy of the magazine is included. Recognizing its rarity, this underwater housing was also the cover of Asia’s SCUBA DIVER magazine Through The Lens series in issue number 9. Macken’s research determined that it is a TARZAN made by Georges Beauchat, and that these are possibly the first commercially manufactured housing in Europe. The period of manufacture was around 1946 -1947 and both a Foca and Leica camera of the period would fit the housing. All the controls move freely and the pressurizing valve retains its dust cap. The back plate removes easily and the four bolt threads are in good condition. The front glass has no chips or cracks. It comes with a foam case that the camera would be placed in. A rare underwater housing from the very early days of underwater photography.
