- Lot Description
At first glance this US Navy standard dive knife appears to be a hard-to-find WW2 vintage Vince model but look closer! The first unusual detail is the large USN stamped into the brass scabbard. This stamp leaves no doubt who the original owner was. Second, the brass scabbard where the knife is inserted is not concave but flat! Next, the knife features a swivel loop on the end, a hallmark Vince made knives. The loop in this example has a slight point on the end, uncharacteristic of the Vince style. So, what exactly is this knife or who made it? At the time of writing this description we have never encountered another. Is it a prototype, a Vince test example or simply a variation the Navy used? With further research this knife may reveal an interesting story to be discovered. What we do know is the knife is in good used original condition. There are no manufacturer marks or names on the blade or scabbard. The blade does show slight surface imperfection. The wood handle does have two small cracks but overall, the wood is solid and features a beautiful patina. Brass scabbard is in great condition and quite unique.
