The Divinhood Style 2 is regarded by many as the most desirable shallow water diving helmet ever produced. The Style 2 was made by the Miller Dunn Company located in Miami, Florida. Miller Dunn started out in 1915 with the Divinhood, a simple helmet that became popular with civilian and military divers. In 1925, Miller Dunn introduced the much-improved Divinhood Style 2, which would become the US Navy's standard shallow water helmet.
The Style 2 Divinhood utilized two angled glass windows on the front protected by brass bars. The large, angled windows provided a great field of view but also created a distorted view when looking straight ahead. Regardless, the model would be made for well over 10 years and proved popular in all sorts of underwater professions and activities.
This helmet has many of the hallmarks of an authentic example but is, unfortunately, a very good replica that should only be used for display purposes. While the helmet is the correct size and weight, we will point out the characteristics that flag it as a contemporary example.
First, the copper body is in nearly mint condition with no working dents. Second, the Miller Dunn ID plate is close but incorrect in font size and wording. Third, the air elbow fitting threads are not in a US pattern. There are a few other inconsistencies that we will not go into. While this is an attractive helmet, we will not be including a COA with it. The word replica will also written in black sharpie on the inside body of the helmet.
