The Galeazzi Company was started in the 1930s by Signore Roberto Galeazzi. His helmets were of high quality and were used by the Italian Navy during WWII and after. The company would produce three different models, Marina (the Italian Navy Standard), Grand Luz and Titano. Of those models, each had different options and configurations that could be specially ordered.
This specific helmet is a Marina model, favored by the Italian Navy. The configuration features 12 bolts and three lights (windows). This classic design provide its effectiveness before, during, and after World War 2.
The helmet features the serial number 33:597 on both the bonnet and breastplate neck rings. That same number is also present on the faceplate. This full serial numbers matching is also in fantastic original unrestored condition!
This helmets condition can easily be considered an excellent original example. The beautiful hand-hammered copper body is a wonderful visual component that shows the fine craftsmanship put into its construction. All the original hardware in present on this helmet with the exception of the safety locking pin on the back of the neck ring. All the glass, window guards, faceplate, wing nuts, brails, eyelets, exhaust, internal exhaust button, and vents are present. Typical working dents are present on the top of the bonnet. Both halves of the helmet thread together without issue.
Galeazzi helmets were not made in huge numbers. Finding a fine original examples in full serial numbers condition is special. These fine helmets also do not appear on the US market often either!
The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity.
