- Lot Description
A fantastic example of a classic Soviet diving helmet in seldom encountered 12 bolt 3 light pattern! This helmet was made at Factory 21 in 1972, as indicated by the brass ID plate. Loosely translated, the plate says Russian Soviet Federative Socialistic Republic; 21st Expedition Party / Group Of Underwater Works; Leningrad.
As shown in the photos, the helmet has a wonderful patina to the copper body and brass hardware. All the correct hardware is present, including the window frames, brails and wing nuts, exhaust, air, and communications fitting. The old neck ring gasket is no longer intact. Also featured is an original Russian underwater light secured to the top of the helmet. Undoubtedly this helmet was used considering the air and communications lines coming out of the back of the bonnet.
The copper body is in excellent condition with only moderate small working dents on the peak of the bonnet. The bonnet and breastplate thread together with ease. The single safety thumb bolt on the back of the neck ring is present and working. The air vent along with communications hardware is present inside the bonnet. The ID plate features a date of 1972, which appears to be over stamped the date 1963.
Factory 21 twelve bolt helmets are relatively difficult to find, especially ones that have been lightly used and feature a light on top. The helmets patina also give it an appearance of a helmet that been part of underwater adventures, making it a stunning display piece!
The display stand shown in the photos is not included. The option to purchase one after the auction will be provided.
All diving helmets in this auction will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Nations Attic. The certificate will have a unique number that will match the number on a tamperproof hologram decal placed inside the helmet. This information will be kept on permanent file at Nations Attic and help ensure the provenance of the helmet and authenticity.
All items will be shipped with a signature required upon delivery and full insurance either via FedEx or the USPS Priority Mail. Worldwide shipping is available; however, no ocean freight will be offered on large items. DHL Express is an option for international shipments under 600 pounds via air. Shipping fees listed with each lot pertain to domestic shipping only (contiguous or lower 48). International bidders are subject to higher shipping fees. USPS is no longer used for international shipments due to issues with tracking packages. Insurance: All items are insured for the full purchase amount less carrier shipping charges, or the maximum amount allowed by the carrier and/or country of destination. Insurance is included in the specified shipping amount listed in the shipping section of the final invoice pricing. All invoices are sent with insurance already factored into the shipping charge. The customer has the right to waive any insurance amount by providing written consent that the customer will not hold Nations Attic, Inc. or its shipping carriers responsible for damaged and/or lost shipments due to uninsured/under insured packages.
