The 1918 USN Diving School Course Notes of Frank W. Himsel, just two years after the Mark V helmet system was introduced. In addition to the transcribed course notes there are photos of the USN Mark 1 – IV style helmets and one of Himsel in a USN Schrader Mark II 4-bolt helmet. A high-end, double-sided, 60-page, photocopy published by the Historical Diving Society USA that only had this available during its early years and less that 100 published. Taped spine with card stock covers showing Himsel in the 4-bolt Schrader. Almost like new condition. Also, the complete 1948 USN Training School Manual for Salvage Divers at the Navy Yard Annex in Bayonne New Jersey. This is a high-end double-sided photocopy of the manual published by the Historical Diving Society USA, which runs to several hundred pages. It was the personal manual of USN Salvage Diver Joseph M. Faiss, and the front of the manual contains various photos and certificates from Joseph’s career. There is also a copy of his letter to HDS USA detailing his career assignments and details of the full-page personal photos he provided for inclusion in the manual. The contents cover every aspect of Salvage Diving from the USN Mark V helmet and kit through to the newer trade skills learnt through the salvage of the USS Normandie at Pier 88 during World War II. A huge manual that the HDS only had available for a short period and less than 100 printed. Comb bound spine with card stock cover with protective sheet in very good condition.
