Plaque reads: Levi P. Morton, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce 1899-1903, Presented by Levi B. Morton in response to a resolution adopted by the Executive Committee of the Chamber, May 1st 1900, Painted in 1896 by George Hughes after Leon Joseph Florentin Bonnat. 56" x 42" American frame, circa 1890's. Morton was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's 11th district 1879-1881, Minister to France 1881-1885, Vice President of the United States 1889-1893, Governor of New York 1895-1896, President of the Metropolitan Club, New York 1900-1911, President of the New York Zoological Society 1897-1909, and he placed the first rivet in the construction of the Statue of Liberty in 1881.
