Tom Waldron (American 1953-) Sculpture. Modern Corten steel sculpture maquette for Blue Tank. Blue Tank sculpture is located at the sculpture garden of the Albuquerque Museum of Art Created in 1986. The painted steel sculpture at the museum measures 77 inches high, 112 inches wide and 18 inches deep. The unpainted Corten steel maquette we are offering measures 12 inches high, 15.3 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep. Weighs 22 pounds. Signed Waldron 86. In good condition. Acquired from the New York estate of architect and artist Charles Morris Mount (1942-2002). In good condition.

Deceptively complex, Blue Tank is an elegant sculpture with both gentle curves and sharp transitions. Viewing the sculpture from the point of view of the curved edge, it appears that the tank could extend all the way around to form a complete circle, but instead, it stops abruptly to create a flat edge on the opposite side. Depending on light and perspective the shapes may be perceived differently. The minimal yet contemplative design of Blue Tank alludes to the importance of water in the desert Southwest.
Tom Waldrons transformation of cast-off objects from the industrial urban landscape integrates practical concerns such as stability, safety, and durability with an interest in inviting different aesthetic points of view.
Tom Waldron is an American sculptor born in 1953 in New York City. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Waldron's early work focused on the human figure, and he became known for his highly realistic and expressive sculptures. He often worked in bronze and other traditional materials, and his sculptures were characterized by their attention to detail and emotional impact. Over time, Waldron's style evolved, and he began to experiment with abstract forms and unconventional materials. He became interested in exploring the relationships between natural and man-made materials, and began to incorporate found objects, industrial materials, and other non-traditional elements into his work. Today, Waldron is known for his large-scale public sculptures, which can be found in cities throughout the United States. His sculptures often reflect the themes and characteristics of their surroundings, and are designed to engage and interact with the people who encounter them. Waldron has received numerous awards and accolades for his work, including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. His sculptures have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and are held in many public and private collections. Waldron is also a respected teacher and mentor, and has taught sculpture at a number of universities and art schools, including the University of Michigan and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
