Frontispicio; dos planos plegados "Gulf of Mexico", 19 x 34 cm. y "The Lake of Mexico", 21 x 16.5 cm.; cuatro láminas plegadas, primera lámina con rasgadura en margen interno, afecta imagen. Tomo II:
Una lámina plegada. Lomos con hierros dorados y tejuelos. Encuadernados en pasta dura, en piel. Piezas: 2. La obra narra los acontecimientos comprendidos entre los años 1517 y 1521, desde la salida de Hernán Cortés de la isla de Cuba hasta la rendición de la Ciudad de México. Es reconocida no solamente por la claridad en el recuento de los hechos históricos, sino también por la calidad de su prosa, lo que la convierte en una de las obras clásicas sobre la historia de la conquista de México.
