Alocución del Presidente de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos a su Compatriotas.
"Conciudadanos: Obediente a vuestra generosa voluntad he tomado sobre mis hombros el grave peso de la Administración pública. Si hubiera atendido a mi genial repugnancia a la intervención en los negocios, al deseo de gozar en el retiro del campo las delicias de la vida privada, os hubiera rogado que designaseis para el mando supremo a otro ciudadano más experto, más digno de la confianza que os he debido. Pero considerando como un sacrificio, y el más costoso de todos empuñar las riendas del poder en épocas difíciles, me resigno, y me consagro de nuevo, sin restricción alguna al servicio del pueblo magnánimo que ha querido honrarme… México Mayo 20 de 1833.
