Washington D. C., octubre 24 de 1939. "I am indeed pleased to inform you that an appointment to the position of Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investgation has been tendered to Mr. Paul W. Waltz of Tucson, Arizona about whom you were interviewed in connection with his application for a position in this Bureau". Firma. "Your communication dated December 12, 1940, has been received and I wish to advise that I have also received a copy of your most recent book, 'America Next'...". Firma. Con membrete del Federal Bureau of Investigation United States Departament of Justice. 1 h., 23.5 x 18 cm. Total de piezas: 2. John Hoover (1895 - 1972), fue el primer director de la Oficina de Investigación de los Estados Unidos, antecesora del FBI fundado en 1935, y donde fue director durante 37 años. Cuando asumió el cargo, Hoover heredó una estructura plagada de corruptelas e ineficiencia. Fundada el 26 de julio de 1908 a instancias del presidente Roosevelt, la entonces conocida como Oficina de Investigación (BOI, en sus siglas inglesas) se limitaba inicialmente a tres decenas de agentes especiales dedicados a la lucha contra la trata de blancas. Cuando Hoover murió contaba con más de 5000 agentes y era uno de los ejes del poder norteamericano. Su lema: Fidelidad, Valentía, Integridad (palabras cuyas iniciales coinciden, en inglés, con la sigla FBI).
