Encuadernado en rústica. Total de piezas: 8. El 31 de enero de 1848, el comandante John C. Frémont, admirado popularmente por sus expediciones de cartografía al oeste, fue sometido a una corte marcial por motín y desobediencia de órdenes. El General Stephen Kearny presentó cargos contra Frémont cuando surgió una disputa sobre quién tenía autoridad sobre una región de California recientemente cedida a los Estados Unidos por México de conformidad con el Tratado de Guadalupe Hidalgo. En reconocimiento a su papel en la ocupación de California, el comodoro Robert F. Stockton nombró como gobernador militar a Frémont en California en 1847. Mientras tanto, las autoridades federales mandaron al general Kearny a California para establecer un gobierno. Se desarrollaron tensiones entre Kearny y Stockton, Frémont se alió con Stockton y en agosto de 1847 Kearny ordenó el arresto de Frémont acusándolo de insubordinación, cargo del que fue acusado como culpable, siendo removido de su puesto en el ejército. A pesar de este suceso, Frémont mantuvo su popularidad y estima entre el público estadounidense.
