The Painters Voyage of Italy. In which All the Famous Paintings of the Most Eminent Masters are Particularised, as they are Preserved in the Several Cities of Italy. Chiefly Relating to their Altar-pieces, and such Other Paintings as are Ornamental in their Churches. And also, Many Choice Pictures, Kept as Jewels, in the Palaces of Particular Persons. Whereunto is Added that Excellent Collection of Signor Septale, in his Closet at Milan.
London: Tho. Flesher, 1679. 8o., 8 h. + 159 p. Siete grabados (frontispicio, cinco retratos de artistas y un mapa de Italia plegado, 11.2 x 14 cm.). Primera edición en inglés; el original italiano es de 1671 'Viaggio Pittoresco d'Italia'. Refinado en margen superior. Encuadernado en pasta dura, en piel. A Giacomo Barri se le identifica como pintor y grabador italiano del Barroco, sin embargo, no se conoce alguna de sus pinturas, por lo que cabría afirmar que de su trabajo destacan grabados y el presente libro. 'The Painters Voyage of Italy' fue el primero en familiarizar a los lectores ingleses con artistas como Guido Reni, Guercino, Barocci y Carracci, además de ser uno de los primeros trabajos en discutir los pintores primitivos italianos y las obras de Rafael, Giorgione y Tiziano. En su momento, fue uno de los libros más difundidos para dar a conocer el arte y la historia de las principales ciudades italianas.
