Circa 1835. Among collectors of American Bowies, this is the most glamorous. Very few collectors can have one as there are only less than two dozen known. Stamped by maker on the haft "Schively 75 Chestnut Street Philad.". Classic Schively blade with large swedge on right side only. Light and moderate pitting over large portion of the blade, two chips on edge, and marks from being sharpened in modern times. It has been sharpened so much, at one point there is a belly in the blade, with a small chip in the center of the belly which leads us to believe it was over-sharpened to try and dispense with a larger chip. German silver mounts. Ebony grip with three Schively style rivets on each side, fully checkered each side with German silver pommel. Beautiful, classic skeletal style Schively scabbard has German silver mounts, in good condition with some scratches and dents, nothing disfiguring, and some solder repair to the tip and front mounts. Blade length 10 - 1/2" L. Overall: 15 - 1/2" L.
