Circa 1840. Retailer signed on the top of the blade "Manufactured for F.C. Goergen New Orleans". Etched on the right side of the blade in high relief "Mississippi Toaster". Gentle clip with swedge. Edge of blade has been heavily sharpened, creating a large belly, and there are also modern sharpening marks. Shows light pitting in places and grey patina otherwise. German silver mounts, handle and scabbard. Checkered ebony one piece grips in classic Goergen design. Black leather scabbard with simple Goergen embossed pattern on front. This piece was owned by Norm Flayderman and is in his book "The Bowie Knife" page 323, second knife in picture. Overall: 14" L.
