Circa 1865. Beautiful little Bowie knife made for dress, not to fight. This would be worn when a man was dressed for fancy occasions. Signed "S. Bell" on the coin silver scabbard for Samuel Bell. Has a spear point blade with swedge on both sides. Blade has been heavily rusted and cleaned. Minor to moderate pitting overall, also surface scratches from cleaning; still retains 30% original polish finish. Handle coin silver mounts and small scroll cross guard. All mounts have classic Bell scroll and floral engraving. Mother of Pearl scales on the right side have a rectangular panel raised and embellished with his trademark checkerboard carving, and left hand panel has raised rectangular center with no carving. Solid coin silver scabbard with leaf engraved around frog, which is also engraved. Swedge in the scabbard conforming to the blade. The design of this piece is the same as other signed knives made by him while residing in Texas. Blade length 6 - 1/4" L. Overall: 10 - 3/4" L.
