Circa 1840. Formally in the revered collection of Norm Flayderman, out of all the bowies in his book he thought enough of this piece to use it to decorate the cover. Also illustrated on page 19. Blade in beautiful condition; the bottom half etched the entire length on left side with floral designs and the logo "For Stags and Buffalos". Cipher stamped on the top portion "Of the Best Quality". Maker stamp on haft "Ibbotson Peace & Co. Sheffield". Spear point configuration; large lovely swedge to both sides. Minor pitting and surface scratching throughout blade, 50% original polish present. Etching in perfect condition. German silver mounts, knife and scabbard. Crossguard with ball finials. Ivory grips with carved fluted borders and inlaid nameplate on left side. Horse head pommel depicting soldier and cannon. Red leather scabbard beautifully tooled to floral and scroll designs overall. Button frog missing from throat mount, two small dents in tip mount. Marked with Ables' red nail polish inventory number and pictured in his book "Classic Bowie Knives" page 52, illustration 90. Overall: 14 - 3/4" L.
