Circa 1835. Beautiful blade in superb condition, elegant clip with swedge three-quarters of the blade on both sides. Entire left side of blade is beautifully etched with scroll and leaf designs surrounding the motto "Arkansas Toothpick". There are eight nicks on sharpened edge in varying size, all very small and they do not detract visually from the beautiful blade. Spanish notch stamped by the maker on the haft "W (crown) R W. Butcher Sheffield". German silver mounts on the handle and heavy rosewood scales decorated with beveled edges. Each scale is adorned with four rivets and a long rectangular nameplate. Classic Butcher dog bone pommel. The scabbard is in itself a masterpiece; it had to have been specially ordered of the period from a silversmith or jeweler. Scabbard is coin silver, magnificently embossed and engraved overall. Some minor nicks and dents in soft silver edges top and bottom. Blade length 8 - 1/2" L. Overall: 14" L.
