An Embroidered Daoist Priest's Robe The rectangular form robe with a central opening at the front, the pale orange silk damask woven with a flower and butterfly motif, the collar, cuffs and borders decorated with auspicious Daoist emblems, trigrams, dragons, chilong and lions in gilt-wrapped threads against a black ground, the back displaying a large square badge embroidered in silk threads with a central pagoda, red-crowned cranes, phoenixes and auspicious emblems, all surrounded by decorative meanders and large circular stars couched in gilt-wrapped threads. 19th Century 71 x 50 1/2 inches (180.3 x 128.3 cm) Provenance:Selma Nelson Scott Collection, primarily acquired during the 1920s-1930s while traveling and living in China.
