- Lot Description
Original oil painting on board by lighthouse keeper, James Rankin (1844-1921). Features an American nautical vessel at sea departing a bayside port at sunset. Art measures 5" h x 7" w presented in a frame measuring 8" x 10".
- Provenance
James Rankin was a lighthouse keeper in the United States. He served in the US Lighthouse Services as the keeper of East Brother Island Light in Califorina from 1877-1978. He then trasnferred to Fort Point Light in San Francisco where he remained for 40 years until retiring in 1919. During his tenure, he was credited with saving the lives of 18 people. In 1997, the US Coast Guard named the USCGC James Rankin 175 ft. buoy tender in his honor.

We offer in house shipping for the majority of the items that are sold in the auction. The exceptions being furniture, bulk or heavy items like marble statues or extremely fragile items. For these items, we recommend you work with a shipper. Shipping charges are not included in the winning hammer price. If you live over 4 hours from the auction house, we will assume that you would like your items shipped. Please let us know if you do not want them shipped if you are over 4 hours away from the auction house. The card that you registered with will be charged for all shipping charges and you will also receive an email with tracking information.
