Etching on paper by listed artist, George Elbert Burr (CO, AZ, 1859 - 1939), signed lower left & titled lower right "The Desert, Ariz,". Art measures 6.5" h x 8.5" w matted & presented in a frame measuring 14.25" x 15.25".
Burr was employed as an illustrator for Scribner's, Harper's, and The Observer. During that time, his illustrations were also published in Volume II of John Muir's Picturesque California. Burr worked and traveled extensively as an illustrator contributing to additional periodicals including The Cosmopolitan and Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper.
In 1892, Burr began a four-year project to illustrate a catalog for the Metropolitan Museum of Art of Heber R. Bishop's jade collection, completing approximately 1,000 etchings of the collection. Burr's watercolors were displayed in galleries and exhibitions along the east coast and as far west as Kansas City, Missouri.
We offer in house shipping for the majority of the items that are sold in the auction. The exceptions being furniture, bulk or heavy items like marble statues or extremely fragile items. For these items, we recommend you work with a shipper. Shipping charges are not included in the winning hammer price. If you live over 4 hours from the auction house, we will assume that you would like your items shipped. Please let us know if you do not want them shipped if you are over 4 hours away from the auction house. The card that you registered with will be charged for all shipping charges and you will also receive an email with tracking information.
