Original oil painting on board by listed artist, Charles Dyer Shed (CA, 1818 - 1893), signed lower left & dated 1875. Features a streamside landscape with fisherman. Art measures 14" h x 24" w presented in a frame measuring 14" h x 24" w presented in a frame measuring 22" x 31".
Provenance: Painter. Born in Boston, MA in 1818. Shed arrived in San Francisco during the Gold Rush in 1849. He worked as a ship chandler and as a scene painter for theatrical producer David Robinson (father of artist Charles D. Robinson). He painted many landscapes of northern California as well as marines and the shipping activities on San Francisco Bay. Shed later moved across the bay to Alameda where he maintained a home and studio for many years at 1616 Alameda Avenue. He died there on Sept. 12, 1893. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. We offer in house shipping for the majority of the items that are sold in the auction. The exceptions being furniture, bulk or heavy items like marble statues or extremely fragile items. For these items, we recommend you work with a shipper. Shipping charges are not included in the winning hammer price. If you live over 4 hours from the auction house, we will assume that you would like your items shipped. Please let us know if you do not want them shipped if you are over 4 hours away from the auction house. The card that you registered with will be charged for all shipping charges and you will also receive an email with tracking information.
