Cold-painted sculpture attributed to listed artist, Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (RO, FR, 1886 - 1947), signed "Miro". Featured on a black limestone base with agate specimen rays . Circa 1920s. Measures 20" h x 9" w.
The mature style of Chiparus took shape beginning in the 1920s. His sculptures are remarkable for their bright and outstanding decorative effect. Dancers of the Russian Ballet, French theatre, and early motion pictures were among his more notable subjects and were typified by a long, slender, stylized appearance. Most of his figures were edited by the firm of Edmond Etling, though he executed a number of models for the firm of Arthur Goldscheider. Both firms had their own bronze foundries. He exhibited a bronze edited by Goldscheider at the 1928 Salon, La Danseuse Ta-Keo.
