- Lot Description
Fine 19th C. Bolivian Poncho, Achiri region, Province of Pacajes, Department of La Paz, Alpaca. Size: 47'' x 61'' (119 x 155 cm). The Pacajes people were expert alpaca breeders who chose only the finest, silkiest fibers for their ceremonial textiles. Special ponchos called "Challapatas" were woven for the local chieftains or Hilacatas. This one with it's striking black background, is particularly distinctive.
