Enrique Linares (Mexican, 20th c.) Monumental Day of the Dead Skull, mixed media and papier mache, signed. Size: 30.5'' x 20'' x 22'' (77 x 51 x 56 cm). This is a museum quality paper Mache sculpture by Enrique Linares. Enrique is part of the Linares family of Mexico City who are internationally known and considered the masters of "cartoneria" sculpture created in paper Mache. This whimsical piece features a kaleidoscope of Day of the Dead imagery including the monumental skull encrusted with a snake, scorpion, and fire-breathing reptile all intertwined amongst flowers, cacti, and vines. There are metallic paint highlights throughout. The piece is signed on the bottom, "Enrique Linares Actopan, Mexico D.F." and dates to the 1970's or 80's.
