Yuri Tozuka’s fascination with the natural world began in childhood, where she was captivated by encyclopedias of living creatures and the fantastical beings in films. After high school, she studied special effects makeup in Tokyo, but it was her encounter with Czech stop-motion animation that shifted her focus toward creating tangible works that resonate with others. She moved to Boston to pursue metalsmithing and jewelry at MassArt, earning her BFA in 2009. Since then, Tozuka has focused her work on exploring the intersection of human and natural forms, employing both hand fabrication and hand-carved lost wax casting techniques in precious metals. Her jewelry and sculptures have been exhibited in galleries and institutions across the United States and internationally. Tozuka’s work is held in the Kamm Teapot Foundation and many private collections worldwide.
