- Lot Description
Winfred Rembert spent his childhood as a fieldworker in the pre-civil rights South. Despite grim working conditions, Rembert's works focus on the joyous aspects of black life in the 1950s South. His paintings are in a number of important public and private collections, and in recent years he's had solo shows at the Hudson River Museum, The Greenville County Museum of Art, The Citadelle Art Foundation, The Flint Institute of Arts, among others. He is also the subject of two award-winning documentary films about the legacy of lynching in America, and the author of a Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir.15. WINFRED REMBERT
