- Lot Description
Miki Asai graduated from The Glasgow School of Art and specialized in silversmithing and jewelry design. Her Japanese aesthetic finds beauty in impermanence, imperfection, transience, and ephemerality. Asai’s attention to detail is illustrated with minutely patterned eggshells, seashells, embellished with urushi, (Japanese lacquer) and gold leaf, and occasionally pearls. She has won several awards for her work, including BKV-PRIZE 2015 for Young Applied Arts Finalist (Munich), The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards 2016 Design Section 2D Pearl Jewellery Bronze Award, and the Japan Jewellery Design Association (JJDA) General Category in 2017. During her final year at The Glasgow School of Art, she was awarded the Precious Metal Bursary Award 2017 by The Goldsmiths’ Centre.
