Elizabeth McDevitt’s jewelry career began over forty years ago during her time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, Africa, where her interest in traditional African metalwork sparked a lifelong study of jewelry making and design. She combines techniques such as engraving, chasing, repoussé, and enameling with high-karat gold, silver, and platinum to create one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by nature, historical sources, and cultural influences from her global travels. McDevitt received her MA Art History from University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1980. The artist has also studied jewelry and metalsmithing extensively through workshops and international travels. In 1982, she studied with the renowned enamelist John Paul Miller at the Cleveland Art Institute. McDevitt’s mother was an art student at MassArt in the 1930’s.
