Asagi Maeda is a passionate metalsmith and sculptor, blending her expertise in jewelry and miniature sculpture. She graduated from Tokyo Zokei University with a degree in sculpture and furthered her studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Gemological Institute of America in New York City. Her work is part of prestigious collections, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Morikami Museum of Art and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, FL. Maeda’s creations are meticulous, crafted from wood, plexiglass, resin, enamel, silver, gold, and both semiprecious and precious stones. Through intricate engravings and enamel work, she tells thoughtful narratives about family and society. Inspired by Tokyo’s "Lunch Specials," Maeda’s accessible, wearable pieces offer unique stories in small, handcrafted forms. Notable series include the Pearl Head Series, featuring deformed pearls symbolizing individuality, and the Moon Kids series, inspired by the song "Reader in Story" and crescent moon-shaped freshwater pearls. In 2023, Maeda had a solo exhibition at the Morikami Museum, where she created the Garden Earrings, inspired by the museum's gardens and wildlife. For the 2025 MassArt Auction, Mobilia Gallery will feature a Bento Box of Maeda’s popular pieces from the "Lunch Specials" series.
