Arline Fisch (1931-2024) is known for her groundbreaking use of textile techniques in metal, from crochet, knitting, plaiting, to weaving, in her work. She founded the program in jewelry and metalsmithing at San Diego State University in 1961. In 1985, Fisch was named a living treasure by the State of California. She is the recipient of four Fullbright grants. In 1994, she received an award for Lifetime Achievement in the Crafts from the National Museum of Women in the Arts. In 2001, she received a gold medal from the American Crafts Council. Her book Textile Techniques in Metal is considered a classic.Her work is in major museum collections worldwide including: Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Montreal, Canada; Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim, Germany; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England; Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh, Scotland; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Japan; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts; Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; and others nationally and internationally.
