HE WAS BORN IN THE 1830S AND COMMANDED AT LEAST TWO SHIPS FROM BATH, ME: THE A J THOMPSON AND THE NORTH STAR IN THE PERIOD OF 1870-1880. HIS WIFE CADDIE WENT TO SEA WITH HIM. THERE IS A LETTER TO CAPTAIN THOMPSON CONCERNING HIS CARGO BOUND FOR SAN FRANCISCO ON THE NORTH STAR IN 1874, RECEIPTS FOR PROVISIONS, ACCOUNTS OF WAGES FOR A VOYAGE TO NEW ORLEANS, A PICTORIAL RECEIPT FOR THE GRAND BALDWIN HOTEL IN SAN FRANCISCO, A RECEIPT FOR TWO CHRONOMETERS, DISBURSEMENT PAPERS, RECEIPT FOR PAINTING THE NORTH STAR. OTHER DOCUMENTS INCLUDE THREE BOUND JOURNALS OR ACCOUNT BOOKS FROM T A HIGGINS, WELLFLEET MA CA. 1860. THERE IS A UNIFORMED PERIOD PHOTO OF THE STEAMSHIP DELLA COLLINS WHICH RAN FROM GARDNER TO AUGUSTA, A BOUND BOOK TITLED REPORT OF THE CRUISE OF THE REVENUE MARINE STEAMER CORWIN IN THE ARCTIC OCEAN IN THE YEAR 1885 BY CAPTAIN M A HEALY. IT HAS 102 PAGES, TWO PULL OUT MAPS, AND NUMEROUS ILLUSTRATIONS. BINDING AND SPINE SHOW WEAR, THE INSIDE IS GOOD, PULL OUT MAPS HAVE SLIGHT TEARS, SOME LIGHT FOXING AND SEVERAL LOOSE PAGES. AN 1899 ACCOUNT BOOK RELATED TO TIMBER SALES FOR SHIPBUILDING IN MAINE. THE BINDING AND SPINE IS BROKEN AND THE PAGES ARE LOOSE. THERE IS A BOUND ACCOUNT BOOK FOR THE SCHOONER ARTEMUS, TIRRELL 1864, A BOUND ACCOUNT FOR THE SCHOONER ELLIE F LONG OUT OF PROVINCETOWN, MA WITH T H HIGGINS AS CAPTAIN, AND A SEAMAN'S TIME BOOK FOR THE SCHOONER MORNING STAR OUT OF COHASSET, A SHIPS LOG FOR A VOYAGE FROM CHARLESTOWN, SC TO JAMAICA CONNECTED TO A SCRAP BOOK BY J A HIGGINS IN 1889 IN VERY POOR CONDITION, A BOUND BOOK TITLED THE FISHERIES AND FISHERY INDUSTRIES OF THE UNITED STATES BY GEORGE BROWN GOODE WASHINGTON 1887. NICE PLATES, BUT BINDING AND SPINE IS BROKEN WITH LOOSE PAGES, SOME WITH CHIPPING ON EDGE.
