Southern Arapaho Crow Dance Society Painted Bag 5.25" x 11.5" unique bag decorated with eagles, turtles and stars on blue and green ochred hide. Fringe is 12" long. Circa 1890. $4,000-6,000 Provenance: According to Mike Cowdrey, an expert on the Crow Dance Society: "I think this is a unique survival, perhaps the only one ever made. It is the work of the same male artist who designed and painted the shirts in this color scheme (and matching dresses with red background), with this overall motif of 5-point stars, the paired crows, magpies and turtle." The Arapaho Crow Dance was a version of the more well known Ghost Dance from the same period. Includes five copies of a double sided historic photograph reproduction of Black Man, Arapaho, wearing a shirt with a similar design. Photo by Frank A. Rinehart, 1898, Matoska Trading Company. Purchased from Stuart Pirnak 2023; Ex Nan and Dave Pirnak. Collection of Jeb Taylor.
Shows use and wear as expected for the age. Small hole visible. Fringe is stiff.
