If the distinctive aerodynamic, triangular base in this pair of midcentury armchairs feels familiar, it may be because it potentially inspired the iconic Concorde passenger airliner-one of only a couple of supersonic aircrafts that ever flew commercially. Its rapid speed was partly achieved by the steep triangular shape of its wings, as seen here in the armchair's base. During the 1960s, it's believed that the then-president of Air France commissioned Jacques Adnet to design these chairs for an executive boardroom. Roughly ten years later, the Concorde design was unveiled.
Today, the Mid-Century Modern chairs have a decidedly vintage appeal, calling to mind film sets like the original Star Trek, or indeed, the powerful and glamourous world of airlines during the midcentury. The chromed steel base is original to the chairs, and they've been newly upholstered in white cream Italian wool bouclettes fabric from Dedar.
