This folding tray table is a rare and unique piece from Christian Dior's, 1970s line of furniture. For both the tray and the legs, wood is painted a smooth black. While the structure of the tray displays the traditional lines of Neoclassism, the surface of the tray, on the other hand, is quite unexpected. It's inlaid with mesmerizing faux malachite and lapis lazuli, each expertly crafted to simulate the milky swirls and deep, cool colors of both natural stones: minty, foamy green and vivid blue, respectively. In the centre of the tray are two dimensional squares of faux malachite, their vibrant color and patterning emphasized by the swath of simple black-painted wood that surrounds them. This highly decorative piece could serve as a functional side table in a contemporary space, or simply put on display.
