Chimayo Hills (New Mexico), 1952

24 x 36 inches
29 x 41 inches (frame)
signed lower right: Otis Dozier '52
verso: titled and dated on stretcher
A nearly identical, though larger, 1952 painting of the Chimayo Hills, was exhibited in 1956 at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. As noted in the exhibition catalogue, “[Dozier] has revisited the areas to the West of his home—the Big Bend, and the arid lands of the Indians in New Mexico and Arizona…this sampling of Dozier’s work presents the complicated evolution of a contemporary artist’s solid accomplishment.” -Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. Otis Dozier, pamphlet, 1956; Dallas, Texas.
The painting appears to be in good condition. Under UV examination, there is no evidence of restoration or inpainting.
Private Collection, Fredericksburg, Texas
