bronze, Lifetime Casting No. 8
10.5 inches high
Inscribed: Frederc [sic] Remington/Copyrighted 1904 Roman Bronze Works N.Y. 8 (inside base)
PROVENANCE
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
This casting of The Sergeant, completed in 1904, was a departure from Remington’s action bronzes of the period. Copyrighted by the artist as “Bust of Rough Rider Sargeant (sic),” it depicts the portrait of a seasoned soldier. The present cast is number 8 out of an edition of approximately 150 total produced and only 20 lifetime casts—making it very rare.

Condition
The sculpture appears to be in excellent condition. The casting is very detailed and sharp with no apparent degradation in the metal and there appears to be no evidence of restoration. The surface of the sculpture has a brownish green verdigris patina.
