- Lot Description
A Federal Mahogany Pillar and Scroll Shelf Clock, Eli Terry & Sons, Plymouth Connecticut, Circa 1823-1831.
The twelve and a half inch white-painted dial with Roman numerals, with wooden works movement, the twin train movement striking on a bell. The hinged door with reverse painted glass tablet. Having an applied E. Terry & Sons paper label to the interior of case inscribed "PATENT CLOCKS, / INVENTED BY / ELI TERRY. / MADE AND SOLD AT PLYMOUTH, CONNECTICUT. / BY / E. TERRY & SONS. / WARRANTED IF WELL USED."
Dimensions: Height 30 1/2in; width 17 1/4in; depth 4 3/4in.
Provenance: Property from a New Jersey Private Collection.
Condition
The case in an overall restored condition, general marks, wear, abrasions, and surface scratches. Retaining an old finish. Minor movement to veneers, shrinkage and age cracks. Wear, rubbing, darkening, craquelure and losses to painted dial. The reverse painted tablet on dial door appears to be in good condition. Scattered minor glued repairs and losses. Dust accumulation to crevices of case. With two weights, pendulum and winding crank. At the time the condition report was conducted, the clock was maintaining power. We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of the clock's movement.
