Of special note are rare ephemera and other articles related to Dr Charles A Leale who, at 23 years old, attended to President Abraham Lincoln after the fateful shooting at Ford Theater. Locati LLC michael@locatillc.comComprising: a 1932 letter from the National Cyclopedia of American Biography announcing Dr. Leale's inclusion in the publication, a 1932 letter of sympathy regarding Leale's death from the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, a dues receipt from the New York Museum of Natural History dated 1880, a CDV of a young Dr. Leale which is signed verso, an 1881 ticket of admission to Windsor Castle, an 1881 rent receipt, various newspapers clippings related to Lincoln, a document in Leale's hand which is an account of a Yonkers NY house that the family owned, and various letters addressed to Dr. Leale and his wife. From Wikipedia: Charles Augustus Leale (March 26, 1842 – June 13, 1932) was a surgeon in the Union Army during the American Civil War[1] and the first doctor to arrive at the presidential box at Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865 after John Wilkes Booth fatally shot President Abraham Lincoln in the head. His prompt treatment allowed Lincoln to live until the next morning. Leale continued to serve in the army until 1866, after which he returned to his home town of New York City where he established a successful private practice and became involved in charitable medical care. One of the last surviving witnesses to Lincoln's death, Leale died in 1932 at the age of 90.Various.From a Main Line family.
