- Lot Description
A Connecticut Federal Tall Case Clock, Silas Hoadley (American, 1786-1870) Plymouth, First Half 19th Century. The painted arched dial with Neoclassical motifs to the lunette and farm scene to the center, inscribed 'S. HOADLEY PLYMOUTH', having Arabic numerals with a subsidiary seconds dial, the twin train thirty-hour wooden works movement striking on a bell.
Dimensions: Height 89 1/2in; width 18 3/4in; depth 10in.
Provenance: Property from the Collection of an English Gentleman.
Condition
The case with typical marks, wear, nick, and surface scratches commensurate with age and use. Age cracks, shrinkage and minor repairs throughout. Glued repairs to scrolled hood. Dial door glass is replaced. There is a significant vertical cracks to the box base. Lacking glass to the sidelights. Dust accumulation throughout. The dial and movement appear to be in an overall restored condition. With one weight and case key. We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of the clock's movement.
