19th century, Tibetan or Nepalese, elaborate wooden frame set with turquoise, agate and probably sapphires in the corners, elaborate filigree work throughout and around central opening, in the center is a painting of Vajrayogini on cloth, very colorful with the goddess dancing in a halo of fire, framed under glass.DOA 10 x 8 in. SS of painting 6 x 4 in.Vajrayogini is an important meditational deity in Tantric Buddhism, both Newar and Tibetan Buddhists regularly worship the goddess and believe her to be an emanation of the goddesses Kali or Durga, Durga being the patron goddess of Tibet.Given to Stewart Edwards by the Royal family of Nepal for his service and friendship in the late 1950s

Good condition of painting and frame, some minor wear to the frame and buckling of the painting in the center, three small pieces of turquoise missing from setting in the frame.
