the printed scale dated 1722 and indicating Edward Beaton as the purveyor, London, the rectangular case with arched top and Chinoiserie decoration, the glazed door enclosing a mercury barometer and spirit thermometer.41.25 x 9.75 in.An almost identical barometer was sold in Edinburgh at Bonhams's auction, Stobhall: The Property of Viscount Strathallan, 2 May 2012, lot 270.Some minor chipping and touch-ups to case; later hanging tab; glass possibly replaced.
