- Lot Description
mid-19th century, dark blue wool lined with white silk, all trim decorated with leaves and tendrils fashioned from gold bullion wire, the garment retains twelve (12) plain back 24mm one-piece gilt brass coat buttons and four (4) conforming 16mm cuff buttons.The buttons on this very rare garment are highly prized in and of themselves by collectors of historical American buttons.Excellent overall condition with only the slightest discoloration to the silk; the right tail lacks its lower button.
