early 19th century, attributed to Gillows, with "X" shaped back splats, reeded stiles, caned seats, turned and reeded front legs.34.5 x 19.5 x 18 in.Pen and Ink on paper label reads "Captain Beatty." The Beattys were one of the leading English naval families in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Susan Silver Antiques, Sheffield, MA.Later caning; minor scuffs; later metal braces to underside of one chair.
