About the Artwork: I make paintings, sculptures, and site-specific installations that explore the interactions between light, color, and form, and investigate how particular qualities of light influence our perception of the world around us. My work is rooted in Light and Space Art Movement, Abstract Expressionism, and Op Art, evoking memories and experiences that highlight the beauty and magic inherent in light. I view my work as a diary or memento of the collections of my thoughts, questions, curiosities, and the glimpses of possibility I discover in our relationship with light.
About the Artist: Kaori Fukuyama (b. 1979, Kumamoto, Japan) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator whose work delves into the connections between light, color, and form. She holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon and has showcased her art in venues such as the Mesa College Art Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Laguna Art Museum, Oceanside Museum of Art, and San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. In 2022, Fukuyama was featured in a three-person career survey at Mesa College Art Gallery, and in 2021, she exhibited at the Oceanside Museum of Art, with both shows curated by Alessandra Moctezuma.
