Writing Instruments Hand Colored Antique 18th C engraving. The engraving itself is 9 3/4" W by 5 3/4" H. It is not framed but in a Matt that is 14" W by 1" H. It is Italian by the artist Filip. de Grado a Sculptor It is 18th c and was taken from a book as a lot of these engravings are. Lower left is:"Vanni delin" Middle: Scala unius palm.Rom. Under the scale is: et unis palm. Neopolit Lower right is Filip. de Grado Sculp.

From 'Le Antichita di Ercolano' (The Antiquities of Heculaneum), which was a collection of images of archeological finds from the excavations at the Roman city of Herculaneum. It was published over a 40 year period from 1744 to 1792 as the excavations continued. Many different artists and archeologists of the day worked on it. Giovanni Morghen was an Italian engraver, the son of a lace merchant of Montpellier of German origin, who settled at Florence. "
