Presentation cane having 'W. E. Dodge from President Roberts, Liberia' engraved atop the silver knob. J. J. Roberts was an American-born Black man who moved to Liberia, became a merchant there before its independence, and ultimately served as its first (and later) President. W. E. Dodge was a wealthy New York businessman. The silver (purity unidentified) handle shows repousse intricacy of metalwork. The wood shaft is ebonized, with minor scrapes to the finish, and ends with a 1 ½" bimetal ferrule. O. L. is 35".
Each auction has different shipping terms but the buyer always pays.
