ca1890; Important sword cane; hand wrought blade with hammer marks visible; 36” blade which is 1” diameter in 46” shaft; ca1890s carriage cane; plaque on shaft identifies "J.A. Joel & Co." NY maker; blade sharp enough to shave with, but not Japanese; double edge blade for slashing; very heavy, probably used in Catholic church when it was expecting violence. Twist and lock mechanism. It could be used as a bludgeon cane with it's massive size and weight. H.- 3" x 4 1/2"
