Ca. 1900- Life Preserver, Defensive System Cane; the ultimate in self-defense, this handsome malacca cane doubles as a blackjack, or baton; known as the billy-club cane. It has a metal crook handle 8 cm high, 10 cm at widest 1.5 cm thick. Down the shaft there is a flexible tightly woven metal coil covered with hard rubber, it can be withdrawn. It is encapsulated on top of a hard wood shaft. It makes a formidable weapon for self-defense, a bimetal ferule completes the piece. The O.L. is 90 cm and the condition is excellent, examples can be seen on page 280 of Cane Curiosa by Dike; condition is excellent.
