Kimball Sterling kimballsterling@earthlink.net-Ca 1840 -Modeled in the conventional Baroque T-shape with an elegantly formed body and asymmetrically curving ends terminating in a tapering tip on the front and a widening shell on the back, the handle is finely painted with an extensive flower arrangement on the swelling back, matching scattered blooms and rich gold moriage on the sides. Fine silver collar with an applied crown and two raising turned rings struck with the German “Half-Moon and 800” silver hallmarks, a rosewood shaft with a blond French polish surface and a horn ferrule. Typical for KPM Berlin and recorded on an original drawing of the reputed manufacture, this knob embodies the very essence of porcelain beauty. It defied time with pride to survive over one and half centuries in a perfect and flawless condition and with the trademark vitreous surface of the world reputed manufacture. -H. 4 ¼” x 1 ¾”, O.L. 37 ¼” -$700-$900 -The white gold of the KPM, Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (Royal Porcelain Manufacturers) has been made in Berlin for the last 250 years. Friedrich the Great christened the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin in the year 1763 and gave it the famous blue scepter as a trademark. From this time onwards, the name KPM has stood for the most perfectly crafted, highest-quality porcelain and became great fame for its fantastical and colorful decoration.
